A Bittersweet Spring Break

Spring break this year is filled with bittersweet moments. We are approaching the one-year mark since the first COVID-19 shut down of schools and a reminder to rethink travel plans this spring break due to the ongoing pandemic. Minnesota will also be in the spotlight once again as the trial of former Minneapolis police officer, Derek Chauvin, who is accused of killing George Floyd, begins this week. We continue to see signs of hope with an increase in our staff members being called for COVID-19 vaccines and excitement continues to build as we prepare to welcome our secondary students back to in-person learning following spring break.

Grades 6-12 Scheduled to Return to the In-person Learning Model on March 18

Based on new guidance from the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE), we are happy to share that students in grades 6-12 currently in the hybrid learning model, will return to in-person learning beginning Thursday, March 18. Students who are in the Virtual Learning Academy (VLA) for trimester three will remain in VLA.

Virtual Learning Academy Not Planned for 2021-22 School Year

South Washington County Schools (SoWashCo) is not planning to continue the VLA option next school year (2021-22). SoWashCo will continue to review any new state guidance and will make adjustments to the plan if necessary.
