district logoEvery year, all fifth grade students in South Washington County Schools participate in an end-of-year track and field meet. To continue the tradition, physical education teachers across the district have partnered to create an online track and field meet for all elementary students (K-5).

The Virtual Track and Field Meet will take place on May 18-22 and students will use common household items to compete at home. Events include pillow high jumps, bottle flip challenge, pillow sack race, shoe kick, egg and spoon race, straw javelin throw and sock ball challenge.

Events will be posted in SeeSaw, an online learning tool for elementary families. All 16 elementary schools have submitted an event with an instructional video on how to compete in the challenge. Students and/or families will use an event card to mark completed activities and have the option to compete at a bronze (five activities), silver (10 activities) or gold (16 activities) medal level. Students will be awarded virtual medals on SeeSaw, depending on their selected competition level.

“This is a great way to continue our tradition in a different way,” said Katie Carter, elementary physical education lead. “We are also encouraging families to compete together and focus on having fun when everything else in life is so uncertain.”

Students are encouraged to dress in school colors to celebrate the week and submit photos to Katie Carter, K-5 P.E. District Lead at to be included in a highlight video.
