New Director of Communications

District 833 hires new Director of Communications and Community Relations

Pepe BartonSouth Washington County Schools has hired Pepe Barton as the new Director of Communications and Community Relations. Barton has extensive communications experience, previously serving as a communications consultant at Saint Paul Public Schools. In this role, he managed high-level communications projects supporting districtwide initiatives, including supporting the district’s strategic plan, coordinating communications around the search for a new superintendent and leading referendum planning for their 2018 operating levy.

“I am excited to welcome Pepe to the District 833 team. Pepe brings with him a wealth of experience of communicating with families and staff on school-related topics that will undoubtedly make him an asset as the leader of our Communications Department,” said Keith Jacobus, Superintendent. “His proven ability to partner with diverse groups, think creatively and implement complex projects, combined with previous school communication experience makes him an excellent fit for this position.”

Prior to his six years in Saint Paul Public Schools, Barton spent 14 years in marketing, writing and directing for broadcast news stations around the country.

Barton has a Bachelor of Arts degree in mass communications from Montana State University - Billings. He replaces Shelly Schafer, who left the position in November. Barton will begin this new role on December 16, pending school board approval on December 12.
