District 833 School Board Meeting

December 12, 2019

1.0 Call to Order; Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a meeting of the School Board of Independent School District 833, South Washington County, was held on Thursday, December 12, 2019. The meeting was called to order by Chair Tracy Brunnette, at 6:30pm at the District Service Center, located at 7362 East Point Douglas Road South, Cottage Grove, Minnesota. School Board Members present were: Tracy Brunnette, Pat Driscoll, Heather Hirsch, Ron Kath, Katie Schwartz, Sharon Van Leer and Michelle Witte. Student Board Representatives, Emily Thompson (PHS) and Hannah Poor (ERHS) were present. Maya Mehra (WHS) was absent. Superintendent Keith Jacobus was present.

2.0 Pledge of Allegiance

3.0 Approval of Agenda: It was moved by Sharon Van Leer, seconded by Ron Kath to approve the amended agenda, adding 10.3 Approval of Wages & Benefits for OPEIU Employees and 10.4 Approval of Wages & Benefits with the Principals Association. All in favor, none opposed, motion carried.

4.0 District Highlights:
PHS Chamber Choir, Ben O’Connor, Park High School Choir Director

5.0 Public Comment: None.

6.0 Consent Items: It was moved by Michelle Witte to approve the consent agenda, seconded by Ron Kath. All in favor, none opposed, motion carried.
6.1 Approval of Retirements, Resignations and Terminations
6.2 Approval of Leaves of Absence
6.3 Approval of New Employees/Change of Status
6.4 Approval of Extended Field Trips
6.5 Approval of Electronic Fund Transfers

7.0 Workshop Items: Agenda item scheduled for the January 9, 2019 meeting

8.0 Information Items:
8.1 Showcase Our Schools, presented by Molly Roeske, Lake Middle School Principal. She highlighted Lake Middle School, their motto and how they strive to personalize.

8.2 Public Hearing for Taxes Payable in 2020, presented by Dan Pyan, Director of Finance and Operations. He presented the proposed taxes for 2020. No one approached the Board for public comment following the presentation.

8.3 Negotiations Update, presented by Tracy Brunnette, School Board Chair. She provided the most recent update on the status of negotiations.

9.0 Discussion Items: None.

10.0 Action Items:
10.1 Approval of Resolution Establishing Polling Locations for School District Elections, presented Keith Jacobus, Superintendent. It was moved by Michelle Witte, seconded by Ron Kath to approve the polling locations. All in favor, none opposed, motion carried.

10.2 Approval of Final Tax Levy for Taxes Payable in 2020, Dan Pyan, Director of Finance and Operations. It was moved by Sharon Van Leer, seconded by Katie Schwartz to approve the Taxes Payable. All in favor, none opposed. Motion carried.

10.3 (added at the beginning of the meeting) Approval of Wages & Benefits for OPEIU Employees, presented by Dan Pyan, Director of Finance and Operations. It was moved by Michelle Witte, seconded by Heather Hirsch to approve the agreement. All in favor, none opposed, motion carried.

10.4 (added at the beginning of the meeting) Approval of Wages & Benefits with the Principals Association, presented by Dan Pyan, Director of Finance and Operations. It was moved by Sharon Van Leer, seconded by Ron Kath to approve the agreement. All in favor, none opposed, motion carried.

11.0 Reports and Comments:
11.1 Superintendent’s Report: Dr. Jacobus highlighted and thanked Ron Kath, Michelle Witte and Heather Hirsch for their service.
11.2 Student School Board Representatives Reports:
PHS: Emily Thompson reported on sports, their blood drive tomorrow, annual winter concert on Monday and also the beginning of rehearsals for their one act play. She noted they just finished their 10 days of giving campaign with a competition between 4 teachers.

ERHS: Hannah Poor reported on their 10 days of giving campaign, the blood drive tomorrow, one act theater rehearsals and Nordic team. This past week they hosted a movie night. She also highlighted their basketball and hockey teams and noted band, choir and orchestra are having a joint concert next week.
