District 833 School Board Meeting

November 7, 2019

1.0 Call to Order; Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a meeting of the School Board of Independent School District 833, South Washington County, was held on Thursday, November 7, 2019. The meeting was called to order by Chair Tracy Brunnette, at 6:31pm at the District Service Center, located at 7362 East Point Douglas Road South, Cottage Grove, Minnesota. School Board Members present were: Tracy Brunnette, Pat Driscoll, Heather Hirsch, Ron Kath, Katie Schwartz and Sharon Van Leer. Michelle Witte was absent. Superintendent Keith Jacobus was present.

2.0 Pledge of Allegiance

3.0 Approval of Agenda: It was motioned by Sharon Van Leer, seconded by Pat Driscoll to approve the amended agenda, adding a closed session, pursuant to MN Statute 13D.03 for Labor Negotiations. All in favor, none opposed, motion carried.

4.0 District Highlights: Agenda item scheduled for the November 21, 2019 meeting.

5.0 Public Comment: Agenda item scheduled for the November 21, 2019 meeting.

6.0 Consent Items: It was moved by Sharon Van Leer to approve the consent agenda. Seconded by Katie Schwartz. All in favor, none opposed, motion carried.
6.1 Approval of Retirements, Resignations and Terminations
6.2 Approval of Leaves of Absence
6.3 Approval of New Employees/Change of Status
6.4 Approval of Extended Field Trips

7.0 Workshop Items:
7.1 Showcase Our Schools, presented by Joni Hagebock, Oltman Middle School Principal. She noted the new culture of Oltman and highlighted the school.

7.2 E- Learning Plan, presented by Kelly Jansen, Director of Teaching and Learning. She shared the purpose and draft plan for implementation.

8.0 Information Items:
8.1 Podcast Partnership, presented by Cori Thompson, Director of Achievement and Integration, with partners from Stillwater Public Schools, Eric Anderson, StoryArk, Stephanie Atkins, as well as students, Talisha Garcia and Emily Tamrat from Park High School. They shared their experiences with the program and plans to expand the program to South Washington County students.

8.2 First Reading of revisions to Policy 206, presented by Mike Johnson, Assistant Superintendent. He shared the updated changes. This will return for approval at the November 21 meeting. There was no request for public comment.

8.3 Negotiations Update, presented by Katie Schwartz, School Board Treasurer. She shared the current status of negotiations.

11.0 Reports and Comments:
11.1 Superintendent’s Report: Dr. Jacobus reported on the work Shelly Schafer, Director of Communications and Community Relations, has done for the district.

11.2 School Board Member Reports: Ron Kath congratulated the newly elected school board members and thanked the community and staff.

12.0 Future Meeting Dates:
12.1 Monday, November 11, 2019 – Special School Board Meeting (DSC/5:30 p.m.)
12.2 Thursday, November 21, 2019 – School Board Meeting (DSC/6:30 p.m.)
12.3 Thursday, December 12, 2019 – School Board Meeting (DSC/6:30 p.m.)

13.0 Closed session, pursuant to MN Statute 13D.03 for Labor negotiations. This agenda item was added at the beginning of the meeting. It was moved by Katie Schwartz, seconded by Pat Driscoll to move to closed session at 7:51pm. All in favor, none opposed, motion carried.

At 8:41pm, it was moved by Ron Kath, seconded by Heather Hirsch to re-convene the meeting. All in favor, none opposed, motion carried.

14.0 Adjournment: The meeting adjourned at 8:41pm.
