South Washington County Schools is happy to announce Activities Directors Phil Kuemmel (Park High School) and Joel Olson (East Ridge High School) will be honored on Saturday, November 25 for their state-wide leadership in educational athletics.

Kuemmel and Olson will receive the Why We Play Leadership Citation Award, which recognizes school athletics and activity administrations for their leadership and commitment to education-based programs in their schools.

“As they collaborate with Marvin Wooten at Woodbury High School, it's fair to say that our District 833 coaches, directors, advisors and teachers do things for the right reasons and continue to develop their ‘why',” said Jason Gonnion, Assistant Principal at East Ridge High School.

The work they've done in the area of defining purpose in education is being modeled around the country by coaches, educators and community leaders.

“My hope, is that through our work in teaching and coaching, we are giving our kids a place to belong, where they find their gifts and talents, and someday change the world,” said Olson.

“Being a part of the Minnesota State High School League's InSideOut team has transformed the way I do my job,” said Kuemmel. “While winning is certainly very important at the high school level, our coaching purpose must be about more than the outcome on the scoreboard. They work hard to build relationships with their student-athletes and hopefully transform their lives through sports.”

The award ceremony will take place at the US Bank Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 25. It will also be broadcasted on Channel 45. Congratulations to Both Phil and Joel!
