Park High School is honored to announce the 14th class for induction in the Park High School Hall of Fame. These alumni are being recognized for this prestigious award because of their athletic excellence while representing Park High School and beyond. The coaches and community members are being honored for their commitment to the youth in our community and their dedication and support of Park athletics. The following are the individuals and team selected into the 2018 Hall of Fame:

  • Tim Cornwell (Class of ‘73): Tim Cornwell was a seven-time letter winner at Park, participating in football, hockey, track and baseball. He earned All-Conference honors in hockey and his baseball team won a conference championship. Cornwell went on to play hockey at the University of Minnesota and Hamline University and later returned to Hamline to coach both hockey and soccer.
  • Gary Fehrman (Coach): Gary Fehrman coached many sports throughout his teaching career in District 833, but his biggest contributions came in football, wrestling and baseball. He spent 26 total years coaching football. In addition, as co-head coach for wrestling, he sent nine entrants to state. The baseball team also went to state twice with Fehrman on the coaching staff. Fehrman remains very involved with the Park community and has been a past member of our Hall of Fame committee.
  • Dale Howe (Class of ‘74): Dale Howe was a three-sport standout at Park, earning All-Conference honors in football, basketball and baseball. Before his death, Howe was actively involved in coaching youth teams in the community, influencing many children and passing on his love of sports. The outdoor basketball courts in Cottage Grove are named in his honor.
  • Jackie Voigt (Class of ‘08): Jackie Voigt is the only female athlete in the history of Park High School to earn All-State honors in three sports: soccer, basketball, as well as, track and field. She also earned numerous academic awards and was named the St. Paul Downtown Lions Club Female Amateur Athlete of the Year. Voigt went on to play basketball at the University of Minnesota and is currently as an assistant coach at Augsburg University.
  • Lauren (Burks) Zidon (Class of ‘02): Lauren Zidon was a running standout for Park and also participated in basketball. She was a state qualifier in both cross country and track all four years of high school. Burks’ highest finishes were third place in cross country and fourth place in track (3200m), both in her senior year. She continued her running career at the University of Georgia, where she earned multiple SEC honors in both sports.
  • 1993 Softball State Championship Team: This will be the third team inducted into the Hall of Fame, done so on the 25th anniversary of their state championship. Coached by Hall of Famer Charlie Whitbred, the team had an overall record of 22 wins and two losses. Park beat Eagan 10-2 for the Class AA championship.

The Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held Saturday, November 17, 2018, at 5:00 p.m. at River Oaks Golf Course in Cottage Grove.
