Following the closure of all schools in the state of Minnesota, South Washington County Schools is opening Emergency Child Care at no cost to families who qualify. Emergency Child Care is open to currently enrolled students in kindergarten-grade 5 for parents or guardians who are defined as an emergency responder that is crucial to the prevention and treatment of COVID-19.

Parents or guardians who qualify should provide proof of their employment through (1) a letter from their employer or (2) an employment badge.

  • Home care workers
  • Personal care assistants
  • Ambulance/emergency
  • Direct care and treatment
  • Other emergency staff, including:
    • First responders
    • Firefighters
    • Personnel providing correctional services
    • Essential court personnel
    • Minnesota State Veterans Homes staff
    • State and local public health agency employees
    • MNsure Navigators
    • County financial/eligibility workers
    • County case managers
    • Or any county staff in emergency management or health and human services

If you are interested in Emergency Child Care and are employed in one of the fields listed above, you may register here. Registration is required by 6 a.m., Tuesday, March 17. Students cannot be dropped off without registration.

If you do not qualify for Emergency Child Care but are interested in receiving free meals for your child, please complete the questionnaire. Meals will be offered at no cost for anyone under 18 years of age (upon request).

Once registration is complete, you will be assigned to one of seven sites throughout the district by the end of the day Tuesday, March 17. Child care will be available beginning on Wednesday, March 18 from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Breakfast and lunch will be provided at no cost. Please be prepared to provide a letter from your employer or an employee identification card or badge to verify your employment as an emergency responder.
