Women talking at library Community members had a chance to learn about cultures from all over the world from current and former students of the Great Rivers Adult Education Consortium on October 17. Great Rivers is operated by District 833’s Community Education program. As a part of the first International Day at the Library, students who learned English as a second language through the program shared presentations about their countries. The event was held in partnership with R.H. Stafford Library in Woodbury.

Many adults who have learned English as a second language constructed posters and gave presentations about their countries. They also shared traditional clothing, performed dance demonstrations and taught basic greetings in their native languages.

When each person entered the library, they were given a “passport.” After each of the 12 presentations, guests received a sticker on their passport. Guests who attended each presentation turned in their passports for entry into a prize drawing for a Community Education gift card.
